Staff Positions Available for 2010
Camp Chanco provides an opportunity for young, college aged students to serve as mentors in counselor and instructor positions. These staff positions are the foundation for the entire camping program. A positive and enthusiastic camp staff is essential for a fun and rewarding camper experience. The camp director will review all staff applications, check all references, and extend offers to only the most qualified, experienced, and mature applicants. Virginia is an at will employment state.
All staff positions will meet American Camp Association (ACA) standards and will include a full professional background check. The safety of the campers is THE number one priority of Camp Chanco and this goal depends on a diligent and competent staff.
The summer camp is in session from mid-June to mid-August. There is a staff training week in mid-June. Most staff will be contracted to work from June 20th – August 13th. Applicants should return the application to Camp Chanco by April 15th.
Positions Available:
- Assistant Camp Director Age 25+: Multiple years of experience with a camp setting as well as experience in child instruction First Aid/CPR
- Out-Trip Director Age 25+: Experience with childrens programming and instruction, must be physically able to attend any planned trips.
- Nurse: Must hold appropriate medical license or certifications to practice in the state of Virginia. Experience is a plus. Great for school nurses.
- Counselors: Ages 18 and older - 9 male, 9 female
- Waterfront Pool Personnel: WSI, Lifeguards, Canoe Instructors,
- Sailing Instructors – Certified in appropriate areas
- Arts & Crafts Personnel
- Environmental (Nature) Instructor: First Aid Certification & CPR
- Archery Instructor: First Aid Certification/CPR
- Ropes Course Personnel: 21 years or older – appropriate certifications and/or 2 years or more documented experience. First Aid Certification/CPR
- Program Director: 21+ years or older with some camp/management-First Aid certified/CPR
- Assistant Program Director: 21+ years old with some camp/management exp. Including Waterfront experience First-Aid/CPR
- Out-trip Personnel: Biking, Rappelling, Canoeing, Sailing, Climbing, – appropriate documented experience 21 years of age or older. First Aid certified/CPR
- CIT: (Counselor In Training) 4 Males, 4 Females 15 – 17 years old.
Salary ranges for 10 weeks: Counselor salary ranges – $1,000.00 – $2,000.00 depending on experience and certifications. Program staff (i.e.. waterfront, ropes, archery, arts & crafts) Salary ranges – $1,000.00 – $3,500.00 depending upon position, experience and certifications. All positions include room, board, and staff shirt.
