Chanco 2016 Year-End Review and Save the Date for 50th Anniversary

1001037_637736762921926_50286223_nThank you to all our friends who made 2016 a stellar year for Chanco on the James! Whether you volunteered at an event or on the board of directors or a work weekend; whether you sent your child to camp or an EYC event; whether you served as a Chanco Parish Representative at your church; whether you attended a retreat or whether you donated to our Annual Fund and scholarships, YOU make the difference!

We are pleased and proud to report many records were set in 2016 including the highest Change for Chanco youth fundraising to date with almost $13,000 donated for the new high ropes element, a Superman Swing. Our camper numbers were the highest they’ve been in recent years with five sessions full and several with wait lists. New retreat programming such as the Homecoming Weekend and the Virginia Camp and Retreat Leaders Conference were offered. Each camp session closed with a new closing celebration inviting family and friends to celebrate with our campers and counselors at the end of each session. A record for financial assistance was set with $46,700 awarded including scholarships to multiple children from Boy’s Home and ForKids, organizations for children in need. And once again Camp Chanco earned the top slot as “Best Summer Camp” in Virginia Living magazine for the fourth year in a row.

In 2018, we will celebrate our 50th year. It is incredible to reflect upon the thousands of lives who have benefitted IMG_3759from our camp and retreat programs over half a century. Our 50th anniversary celebration date has been set for May 4-6th, 2018 so SAVE THE DATE and join us as we celebrate 50 years of friendship, love and spirit in our retreat and camp programs! We look forward to welcoming decades of camp and retreat alumni and friends back home to our magical woods for our 50th anniversary celebration!
