The vision of Chanco from our bishop

Chanco on the James is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia and our bishop, the Rt. Rev. Herman (“Holly”) Hollerith, IV supports Chanco’s programs and future growth.  Chanco is currently going through a transition in property improvement and staffing.  At the same time, the Chanco board and staff are working to continue Chanco’s fiscal stability, not just surviving, but thriving in growth, property improvements, programs and ministry.  During this time of both needs and growth, the Rt. Rev. Hollerith shares his vision for Chanco in his words below:

“I envision Chanco being everything it currently is and much, much more.  I see it as a place with the potential to be the true spiritual heart of Southern Virginia – a place where people come from all over for spiritual formation, refreshment and worship, a place characterized by Christian hospitality.  I see the summer camp as a place for our young people to grow in their spiritual awareness and to begin to find their place in the community of the baptized.  And finally, I see it as a place that draws in people from both inside and outside our Church, giving us an opportunity to share with them God’s love as revealed in the beauty of creation.” +The Rt. Rev. Holly Hollerith, IV – Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia

We hope all our friends both within and outside of our diocese will join us in making this vision a reality.  Whether by giving your financial support to our Annual Fund, volunteering as a Chanco Builder in our property renovations, sending your children or grandchildren to camp, and/or by urging your parish to hold its retreats and programs at Chanco’s conference center, we hope you will join us in achieving our bishop’s vision for a thriving ministry at Chanco which can truly become “the spiritual heart of Southern Virginia” .  We give thanks for all of our supporters!
